Swiss music is based on various national traditions. The commonality and originality of Swiss musical art were manifested in folk and compositional music. The 13th-16th centuries stand out in song folklore. Patriotic, mainly anti-feudal songs and the original genre of the Alpine mountaineers, composed in different regions of Switzerland, as well as pastoral melodies performed on the Alpine horn. Dances include bird polka and group dances. There are more than 10 symphony orchestras, chamber orchestras and ensembles, opera troupes, and choirs in Switzerland. There are the Swiss Association of Musicians and Composers, the Union of Swiss Musicians, the Basel Academy of Music, the Zurich School of Music, conservatories in Geneva and Lausanne, music departments at universities, city and church schools.
The formation of the history of Swiss music is based on two factors. In ancient times there were no style-defining centers here due to the lack of majestic and luxurious princely houses. In multilingual Switzerland, music has had a significant impact on the surrounding culture. This is why the independent Swiss style of music was created.
