Swiss architecture

The artistic culture of Switzerland developed in close connection with the art of neighboring countries (France, Germany, Italy). Monuments of ancient art discovered in Switzerland date back to the Haten culture and the Roman period. Ancient architectural monuments are associated with Merovingian art. Monuments of the Carolingian Renaissance are distinguished by their large size and tendency to complicate architectural forms. The monumental art of the Carolingian period showed the desire of artists to revive the means of expressiveness of ancient painting, based on visual deception. The buildings of the Romanesque and transitional Romanesque-Gothic style are close to the architecture of France and Germany.
Le Corbusier is a popular and recognized architect in Switzerland. Atelier 5, Mario Botha and Diener-Diener are famous contemporary Swiss architects who have made a major contribution to the formation of modern architecture abroad. The names of architects Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Mero have become popular names in London and Beijing in recent years, and they received the Pritzker Prize. Peter Zumthor, whose most famous building is the thermal baths located in Wallis. he is also a Pritzker Prize winner. In 1928, the Geotheneum was built in Dornach near Basel, a reinforced concrete building whose sculptural form is still one of the famous buildings of expressionism and organic architecture.
