The Iguazu River descends spectacularly at the confluence of Brazil, Argentina and Paraguay. Water from 247 waterfalls roars down the semicircular gorge below. The river narrows to a quarter of the width of the falls, causing more water to flow from the falls.
Some waterfalls are over 100 meters high and cover such a large area that you won't be able to see them all at once, but the Brazilian side offers the widest views. The tower and podiums offer a different view, and the bridge reaches the largest waterfall, the Garganta do Diabo or "Devil's Throat".
You can cross over and go to the Argentine side to get a closer look at the waterfall. The catwalks extend further into the center of the waterfall. Most tourists see the falls from both sides as both offer different views and perspectives.
Iguazu Falls is surrounded and protected by a UNESCO-recognized national park where the rainforest is home to more than 1,000 species of animals and birds, including otter, capybara, ocelot and deer.
