About Tsaghkadzor

Tsaghkadzor has been an attractive settlement and resort since ancient times, with people settling there as early as the 3rd-5th centuries. The settlement was also called Tsaghkunyats Dzor and served as a summer residence and hunting ground for the Arshakuni. Other Armenian princes and kings also hunted in the forests of the beautiful valley in the eastern part of the Tsaghkunyats Mountains, attracted by the area’s healthy mild climate and beautiful scenery.
Tsaghkadzor is located in the Kotayk Marz of the Republic of Armenia and has a population of about 2,000. The city is located on the slope of Mount Teghenis, on the left bank of the Marmarik River, at an altitude of 1,845 m above sea level. The steep mountain ranges extending north and south of the city are covered with forests, and the Tanzaghbyur River flows from west to east and flows into the Marmarik River, a tributary of the Hrazdan. Tsaghkadzor retained its reputation as a popular resort, especially in the USSR, and here, along with Armenian citizens, citizens of the USSR vacationed. At that time, about two dozen pioneer camps and holiday homes operated in the Tsaghkadzor Valley. When a cable car was built on the slopes of Mount Teghenis in 1972, Tsaghkadzor also became known as a ski resort. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the city quickly overcame the crisis and is now one of the leading tourist centers of independent Armenia and the South Caucasus, with modern hotels, restaurants, entertainment venues, quality trade and service facilities, well-developed infrastructure, well-kept streets and all modern urban communications.
