Benjarong Pottery. Known for its intricate hand-painted patterns in five colors (red, yellow, green, blue, and white), often gilded. Cups, vases, and boxes are luxurious. Prices start at $15.
Wood Carving. From delicate animal figurines to life-size paintings, artisans work with teak, rosewood, and mango wood. The best examples can be found in Chiang Mai, but they can also be purchased at night markets throughout the country. Prices start at $5.
Unique Hill Tribe Artifacts. Incredibly patterned fabrics, bags, and silver jewelry—each piece is unique and has its own story.
Khon Mask. Not just a decoration, but also an important part of the Thai classical dance performance Khon (a UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage). Decorative masks made of papier-mâché or carved wood have deep symbolic meaning. Items made from reed, bamboo, rattan, or water hyacinth. Lightweight, eco-friendly, and very fashionable bags, baskets, and rugs. Prices start from as little as $5.
