Sharjah: Population 800,000 (2008). Area: 2600 km² (3rd largest in the country). It is mainly located on the shores of the Persian Gulf, but also has a small area in the east of the country. This is a separate territory on the coast of the Gulf of Oman. Sharjah is the oldest of the 7 emirates and has been known as a settlement for 5,000 years. In 1727, an independent emirate was proclaimed, and on December 2, 1971, the Emirate of Sharjah became part of the UAE. Among the largest settlements in the emirate are the cities of Khor Fakka and Kalba, located on the shores of the Gulf of Oman, as well as the Dade oasis, 60 km from the capital .The emirate has the strictest rules. In Sharjah, sunbathing is prohibited even on a private beach; swimming in the sea is only possible on the hotel’s private beach. Alcohol is strictly prohibited and is not allowed even in hotels.
