Mykonos Island

Mykonos Island

The first thing people notice when visiting Mykonos is the colorful doors and windows, usually painted blue, red or green. The tradition of using these bright colors dates back to the time when sailors painted their doors and shutters blue, villagers green and others red. Today, visitors to the island love to wander the charming streets of Mykonos to admire the whitewashed buildings decorated with brightly painted doors, windows, staircases and balconies.

The ancient windmills are one of the symbols of Mykonos. An interesting coincidence between the number of windmills and the era in which they were built. The number of windmills is 16 and they were all built by the Venetians in the 16th century.

According to legend, the island got its name from the ancient hero Mykonos, who was considered a descendant of the mythical god Apollo.

Mykonos is considered the most active corner of Greece. Here, parties do not stop all day until dawn. The most popular dancing spots on the island are the beach bars.

While Santorini is known as the island of the most beautiful sunsets, those who have ever visited Mykonos will confirm that the sunset from any point on the island is spectacular.

A few centuries ago, the Aegean Sea was a paradise for pirates, and Mykonos was one of their favorite targets. The islanders decided to build a labyrinth of streets and countless alleys, deliberately designed to confuse pirates, while allowing the residents of Mykonos to defend themselves from raids.
A walk along the white streets and beautiful paths of Mykonos is a must for every visitor.
