About Fujairah Cuisine

Fujairah cuisine is part of the traditional Emirati cuisine of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), also incorporating the characteristics of its geographical location and coastal location. It is notable for its combination of local seafood, Arabian spices and Bedouin culinary traditions.
Features of Fujairah Cuisine
Seafood. Since Fujairah is located on the coast of the Gulf of Oman, there is a strong emphasis on fresh fish and seafood, such as crab, squid and shrimp.
Meat dishes - salads and barbecues are mainly prepared from lamb, beef and chicken. Traditional dishes include mahbus - a dish of rice, meat and spices, and harees - a thick dish similar to khashapur, made from a mixture of wheat and meat.
Bread and pastries. Fujairah is home to a wide variety of Arabic breads, such as raqaq, a thin, crispy bread, and shebab, a traditional Persian pancake-like bread served with honey and cheese.
Arabic spices and seasonings – some dishes use za'atar, cardamom, saffron, cinnamon and other exotic spices.
Traditional drinks popular in the UAE include Arabic coffee, gahwa, served with vegetables or dates, as well as black tea and lemonade.
Famous Dishes
Al Madrooba – a thick fish dish cooked with spices and tomato sauce.
Balalit – a sweet and salty Arabic breakfast dish consisting of vermicelli cooked with butter and spices.
Luqaimat – small baked balls soaked in honey or thick sugar syrup.
Fujairah cuisine is best suited to the Emirati hospitality culture, where sharing and hospitality are important.
