Overview

Why travel to Antalya

Antalya is the capital of the Turkish Riviera and one of the most popular beach destinations for travellers from Armenia, just a short flight away. Hotels in Antalya cover every style: boutique guesthouses in the old town of Kaleiçi, city hotels facing the mountains at Konyaaltı, and the famous all-inclusive resorts of Lara and Belek with pools, aqua parks and private beaches.

The city itself is worth exploring. Kaleiçi is a maze of narrow streets with Ottoman houses, small mosques and courtyard cafés that lead down to the old Roman harbour, entered through the marble Hadrian's Gate. Nearby, the Düden waterfalls tumble straight into the sea, and boat trips from the harbour show you the coast and the falls from the water. Long Turkish breakfasts, fresh fish, kebabs, piyaz salad and baklava make eating out a real pleasure.

Antalya is also a base for some of the best-preserved ancient sites in Türkiye. The Roman theatre of Aspendos still hosts performances, while Perge and the mountain city of Termessos make excellent half-day trips. The Taurus Mountains rise right behind the coast, so you can swim in the morning and drive into the mountains in the afternoon. With a long warm season, easy flights and resorts for every budget, Antalya is a classic choice for a family holiday or a relaxed week by the sea.

Travel tips for Antalya

  1. Cards are widely accepted, but keep some Turkish lira for small cafés, markets, taxis and tips.

  2. Tipping around 5–10% in restaurants is common when service is not included, and a small tip for hotel staff is appreciated.

  3. Use city trams, buses or official taxis, and ask the UTours team to arrange airport transfers to Lara, Belek or Konyaaltı.

  4. Dress modestly when visiting mosques: cover shoulders and knees, and women should bring a scarf.

  5. In July and August, book family rooms and all-inclusive resorts well ahead, as the best options sell out early.
