Overview

Why travel to Bali

Bali is the best-known island of Indonesia, loved for its Hindu temples, emerald rice terraces, volcanoes and Indian Ocean beaches, and warm weather all year round makes it a great escape from the Armenian winter. Hotels in Bali are remarkably varied: you can stay in a villa with a private pool among the rice fields, a boutique hotel in a surf town or a large resort with its own stretch of sand, often at better value than in other long-haul destinations.

Each part of the island offers a different holiday. Ubud in the green centre is the cultural heart, with art markets, yoga studios, traditional dance and walks along the rice fields. The south has the beaches: trendy Seminyak and Canggu with beach clubs and cafes, family-friendly Nusa Dua with calm water and large resorts, and the Uluwatu peninsula with dramatic cliffs and world-famous surf breaks.

Balinese culture is part of everyday life: you will see small offerings of flowers on every doorstep, temple ceremonies in the streets and the Kecak fire dance at sunset above the ocean. Many travelers combine their stay with a sunrise hike up Mount Batur, a boat trip to Nusa Penida or a few days on the Gili Islands. Add Balinese massage, fresh tropical fruit and dishes like nasi goreng and babi guling, and Bali easily becomes a trip of a lifetime.

When to go

Bali weather by month

The best time to visit Bali is the dry season from April to October, with sunny days, lower humidity and good conditions for hiking, diving and surfing on the west coast. July, August and the Christmas and New Year holidays are the busiest periods, so hotels should be booked early. From November to March is the wet season: tropical showers usually come in the afternoon or at night, the island is greener and quieter, and hotel prices are often lower.

Travel tips for Bali

  1. Use the Grab or Gojek apps for taxis and scooter rides, and plan extra time: traffic in the south of Bali is heavy, especially around Canggu and Seminyak.

  2. Wear a sarong and sash when visiting temples; they are usually available to borrow or rent at the entrance.

  3. Change money only at authorised exchange offices and count your cash at the counter, as rupiah notes have many zeros.

  4. Check the date of Nyepi, the Balinese Day of Silence in March, when the whole island including the airport shuts down for 24 hours.

  5. Drink bottled or filtered water, and book Nusa Penida boats and Mount Batur hikes through your hotel or a trusted operator.

When is the best time to visit Bali?

The dry season from April to October is the best time for a beach holiday in Bali, with sunny weather and lower humidity. July and August are the busiest months. November to March is the rainy season, but showers are usually short and come later in the day, so you can still enjoy the island at lower hotel prices.

Which area of Bali is best to stay in?

For a first trip, many travelers split their stay: a few nights in Ubud for culture, rice terraces and nature, then a beach area. Choose Seminyak or Canggu for beach clubs and cafes, Nusa Dua for calm beaches and family resorts, and Uluwatu or Jimbaran for cliff-top views, surfing and a romantic atmosphere.

Do Armenian citizens need a visa for Bali?

Entry rules for Indonesia change from time to time for Armenian citizens, so we do not give a fixed answer here. Please check our Visa page or ask the UTours team before you book flights, and we will explain the current requirements. The same advice applies to travelers with other passports.

How many nights do you need in Bali?

The journey from Yerevan takes around 15–18 hours with a connection, so we recommend at least 10 nights, ideally 12–14. This gives you time to recover from the flight, spend a few days in Ubud, enjoy the beaches in the south and add a day trip to Nusa Penida or a sunrise hike up Mount Batur.

Is Bali good for a honeymoon?

Bali is one of the most popular honeymoon destinations in the world. Couples love private pool villas in Ubud's jungle, cliff-top resorts in Uluwatu, flower baths, couples' spa treatments and candlelit dinners on Jimbaran beach. Tell us it is your honeymoon when booking and our team will help you choose the right hotel and transfers.
