Tourism in Sri Lanka is a sector of the country's economy that is developing rapidly. For centuries, Sri Lanka has been a popular and popular destination for foreign tourists. The famous Chinese traveler Fa-Hien traveled to Sri Lanka at the end of the 4th century. In the twelfth century, Italian merchant and traveler Marco Polo claimed that Sri Lanka was “the best island in the world.” Due to its enchanting beauty and rich cultural heritage, Sri Lanka is considered one of the best tourist destinations in the world.
In 2012, the World Leisure Office declared Sri Lhankha as the best holiday destination in the world. In 2013, the popular travel guide Lonely Planet named Sri Lanka as the best travel destination of 2013. According to the Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Report, based on 2015 data, Sri Lanka is ranked 63rd out of 141 countries.
