Dress code in Morocco

Dress code in Morocco

Choosing your clothing carefully is especially important in rural areas, where people can be seriously injured if you are not properly insured. Noticing how Moroccans dress locally and doing the same is usually the best policy. Women should wear long, loose pants or skirts that cover the knees. Tops should have long sleeves and a higher collar. Men should wear a collared shirt, long pants and closed-toe shoes. Avoid wearing tank tops and shorts.
Besides dressing modestly, it is important to know the body language and social norms in Morocco. In rural areas, it is important to show respect to elders by not talking to them or looking them directly in the eyes. When sitting or standing, do not cross your legs as this is considered disrespectful. As a sign of respect, men should wait for the woman to sit down first.
