Batumi

Batumi is a city and port in Georgia, the capital of Adjara, located on the Black Sea coast. It is considered one of the main tourist centers of modern Georgia, as well as an important cultural and economic center. The name is believed to come from the root "bat", "stone". It is famous for its Old Town as well as the tourist area. The city is divided into 7 districts. The flow of tourists to Batumi is increasing every year. Vacationers are attracted by the warm sea, modern architecture, and national cuisine. Tourists of different nationalities vacation here, including Georgians, Russians, Armenians and Ukrainians. Batumi is a modern city with a well-developed tourist infrastructure, many cafes and restaurants, hotels, not only budget ones, but also hotels of international hotel chains such as Sheraton and Radisson. The main city beach, called Batumi Beach, is always crowded, but it is quite clean. Those who want a quieter beach can head to the southern suburbs of Batumi to the beaches of Gonio and Kvariati. There are many Orthodox, Catholic and Armenian churches in the city. The monastery of the Holy Mother of God and the Armenian Church of the Holy Redeemer are famous. Among the architectural monuments, the Orta Jame Mosque (19th century) stands out. South of Batumi are the ruins of Gonio Castle, where you can see 900-meter fortress walls with 18 towers.
