Brazil Ipanema

The magnificent white sands of Copacabana beaches merge with the equally famous beaches of Ipanema. Here you can also see the undulating design of the wide Copacabana promenade, separating the sand from the row of trendy cafes, cinemas, hotels, restaurants and art galleries that make this a popular tourist destination all year round.
Beyond the Jardim de Ala canal, which flows into Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas, are the beaches of Leblon. With fewer tourists and more locals, these beaches are popular with families. Thanks to the antique markets of Feira de Artesanato de Ipanema and Praça de Quental, there is plenty of street food, art, handicrafts and music on Sundays.
Be careful when deciding where to go swimming, as the waves in Leblon and Ipanema can be very unpredictable and strong. Ask locals and stay away from areas where you can't see other people swimming. If you're a surfer, head to the section between Ipanema and Copacabana where all the surfers hang out.
