Riga

Riga (Latvian: Rīga), the capital and largest city of Latvia. According to the 2012 census, Riga's population is 699,203, which is about a third of the country's total population. It is the largest city in the Baltic countries, as well as one of the largest cities in Northern Europe.
This is a port city. Distributed in the Gulf of Riga and the mouth of the Daugava River. The total area is 307.17 km². Height 1-10 m above sea level.
It was founded in 1201. Since 1918 it has been the capital of Latvia. About 45% of the population are Latvians, 40% are Russians, there are also Belarusians - 4.1%, Ukrainians - 3.7%, Poles - 1.9%.
The historical center of the city - the Old Town - is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
