Seychelles (French: République des Seychelles, English: Republic of Seychelles) is an island republic in East Africa. The Republic of Seychelles occupies the islands of the same name Amirantean, Aldabra, Cosmoledo, Farquhar and about 115 smaller islands located nearby in the western Indian Ocean, northeast of Madagascar, in the equatorial zone. It is a member of the British cooperative. Mahe Island is the highest island, and the lowest point is 910 meters. These islands were discovered by the Portuguese in the early 15th century. The capital is Victoria.
