Meteor is one of the largest monastic complexes of Greece. The monastery complex was founded in the 10th century. In 1988, the monasteries were included in the World Heritage List.

According to various sources, there were 22 or 24 monasteries, of which only six work. 4, men and 2, women and others are abandoned, partially or carefully destroyed.

According to legend, the first hermits rose to these rocky and inaccessible, 10th century on these rocks. They lived in caves and deepened.

Six operating orthodox monasteries are located on the tops of huge stones. As a result of water, wind and temperature fluctuations, they became huge, as if they were in the air, stone columns, which received the name of the meteorite.

Meteor is still the most beautiful and attractive in Greece.
