Balinese cuisine

Bali has a unique cuisine, but almost all tourists like it. The dishes are not as spicy as in Thailand, and the Balinese also use a lot of spices. The famous combination of 8 spices is used: coriander, cumin, cloves, white and black pepper, nutmeg, wax fruit and sesame. All dishes are based on rice, and, unlike other Islamic states in Indonesia, Bali eats pork.
To get acquainted with the national cuisine of Bali, we recommend trying the famous Babi Guling dish. This is a pig that is marinated in herbs for a long time and then roasted on a spit for several hours. The meat is served with vegetables and sauce. Hint. If you decide to try the “children’s drink”, then go to the cafe before lunch. In the morning the pigs are cooked, and after that the cafe (cucumbers) is closed.
Another national dish of Bali is betutu. It takes at least 24 hours to prepare. Chicken or duck is marinated, then fried and stewed with spices. The most tender betuta is served with rice and a special sauce made from coconut oil, onions and chili peppers.
For dessert you can try Martabak. Simply put, it is a dense pancake filled with chocolate, banana and walnuts. It is more pleasant to enjoy the dish with traditional hot tea or coffee.
